I have been using twitter since the year 2013 and would consider myself a pretty fluent user. I find twitter to be one of the best platforms to have conversations and share/find information. Although I always knew twitter was home to countless different hashtags and subjects of tweets to explore, I was still shocked to see the surplus of new and constantly updating conversation going on in the education communities. This could be extremely beneficial in my future career as a way to ask questions, get advice, and share my own tips in whatever field I am pursuing.
Digital divide has proven to have a large impact on student success. Students who have access to updated (or any) technology outside of school will be better equipped to incorporate it into the academics/work later on. The digital divide is often caused by economic disadvantages that prevent families from being able to afford new devices, wifi, data, etc. As a teacher it is very important to take into account the digital divide when planning assignments. Teachers should only assign homework that can be sufficiently completed by all students despite any differences in resources. Use of technology should be limited to the resources provided by the school for each student; implementing technology into the classroom is vital, but needs to be accessible to all.
The first software tool I would implement into my classroom is presentation creator websites/apps (ex: prezi, google slides, canva). Creating organized and efficient presentations is a necessary skill for almost any job, and a good life tool in general. It will also help the students improve their skill of using and navigating new softwares/tools which is an incredibly important skill for any job. Another software I would implement into my class is KhanAcademy. As a student, Khan Academy was very useful for reinforcing lessons and sometimes seeing the information from a different view. This resource for extra practice is extremely useful when a student or group of students may be having difficulty with a topic.
Hi Mary, I agree that teachers need to be sensitive to whether students have access to the internet or not. If the teacher assigns work online and the student does not have access to a computer, then their grades will be poorly affected. I like that a software program you would introduce is Khan Academy. That website has saved my math grade numerous times. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! I agree that Khan Academy is a useful program to use in a classroom, it's a really helpful source for almost every subject. I like the point you made about the digital divide. To prevent any student from falling behind as a result of limited technology access, teachers need to ensure that homework using technology is able to be done by all students.
