Welcome, friends!
Hello like minded individuals! We must have crossed paths here for some good reason. I am originally from Fort Myers and am attending FSU in pursuit of a degree in English as well as a minor in education. I spent my freshman year of college at FAU, but decided to transfer here after a very uneventful and somewhat depressing year as a college student in a town full of retirees. I have been very positive throughout my start here in Tallahassee and, although everything is online, I am very excited for what this semester will bring!
Beginning in middle school, I was required to take computer and typing proficiency classes. We learned basic technological skills such as using word, excel, paint, etc. When I entered high school we began using iPads for all schoolwork, note taking, and textbooks/reading. I believe this is a very useful tactic to introduce students to the more technologically advanced setting that comes along in college. In high school there were many more outlets for help pertaining to technological questions/problems whereas in college students often find themselves addressing these issues on their own.
My own personal learning network is mainly made up of the professors, teachers, and classmates that I most bonded with over the years. Whether it was because we thought similarly, earned similar grades, or just because we got along well, these are the people I go to for reassurance or help within respective area of learning. I also like to refer to trusted sources/creators on platforms like YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Videos and posts shared by well-informed sources have proved to be extremely helpful whenever I need extra guidance/practice within a subject!
Welcome to Tallahassee! I almost visited Fort Myers for my son's baseball showcase last winter but my son chose Quebec for the winter break. I want to visit Fort Myers someday. If you use Twitter, who/what accounts do you follow for your PLN? Any famous people and organizations in your field? Have you personally sent any inquiry? Just wondering... :-)
ReplyDeleteHi! I would definitely choose Quebec over Fort Myers too.. lol. If you do get to visit though, I would recommend staying around the beach! Sanibel Island is the most beautiful area around here, in my opinion. I have been using twitter for a long time now (unprofessionally) and don't generally follow people related to my work, school, or hobbies. Twitter, to me, is more of a place too browse jokes, relax, and sometimes keep up with national and local news. I am excited to start using twitter for our class, though. It will be a good introduction to the more professional side of social media.
